A dance floor rental is one of the most important part of any festive event. In fact, a party or any type of celebration is not complete without a dance floor. The dance floor is arguably the most important detail of the entire wedding reception. A packed dance floor means guests are enjoying the party! But when your venue doesn’t offer a dance floor, you might be wondering how much you should expect to pay to rent one. We asked Lindsey Shaktman from Mavinhouse Events and Lori Stephenson, owner of Lola Event Productions, to weigh in with their expertise.
The experts agreed that you should expect to see quotes around $1,000 for a dance floor rental. “Luckily, this price typically includes the instillation costs, Shaktman says. This price point, according to Shaktman, will get you about 20×20 dance floor, depending on the area, which should accommodate around 100 dancers. But, the price might not include transportation and installation. Be sure to ask first.
Stephenson says, “It depends on the size, finish, and the length of time the rental company has to lay it down.” When it comes to size, consider whether your guests are the type to dance all night. If your guest list is full of party animals, you’ll want to make sure the dance floor can fit almost all of your guests.

On average, though, you can expect to see between 40-70% of your guests on the dance floor at any given time. If you go too big, the dance floor will feel pretty empty even when most of your guests are getting down, but if you go too small, it will discourage guests from dancing.
Talk with your planner for advice on the ideal dance floor rental size. Keep in mind that your event location must have enough level ground for the floor to go on. Then, work with the rental company to learn how long it will take them to lay the floor down and if there are any additional service fees.
Here's a good rule of thumb!
There should be at least three square feet of dance floorspace for every two guests. So, if you have 100 guests, you will need at 10”x 15′ dance floor; for 150 guests, you would need a 15′ x 15′ dance floor; 200 guests would be about an 18′ x 18′ area; 400 guests calls for about 25′ x 25′ of space. Remember, that’s the minimum size you need. You can always go bigger, especially if your guests like to dance.

For a party of fewer than 50 people, your dance floor size should be at least 10 x 10 square feet
100 people? Your dance floor size should be at least 10 x 15 square feet
150 people? Your dance floor size should be at least 15 x 15 square feet
200 people? Your dance floor size should be at least 20x 20 square feet
250 people, Your dance floor size should be at least 25 x 25 square feet
300 people? Your dance floor size should be at least 30 x 30 square feet
350 people? Your dance floor size should be at least 35x 35 square feet
